Christopher Jay Heller is a Los Angeles-based hat maker specializing in handcrafted, one-of-a-kind felt hats. Each piece is designed, shaped, burned and finished by hand, drawing inspiration from art, movement, and the raw energy of Southern California. From his studio in Los Angeles, Christopher creates wearable works of art that are shipped to clients around the world.
After years of styling celebrities, he realized that while fashion was exciting, it wasn’t fulfilling in the way he craved. Alongside his best friend Charlie, his dog and constant studio companion, he is drawn toward slow fashion and more intentional wearable art that reflects individuality rather than trends. Hat-making gives him that space.
Craft Rooted in Story, Community, and Identity
His background in social work, particularly working with youth in his community, deeply influences his approach to craftsmanship. That experience shaped how he listens, how he collaborates, and how he creates. Every hat he makes is rooted in the belief that what we wear can be a form of self-expression, healing, and confidence.
Each piece is made by hand, one at a time never mass-produced. He designs hats for people who want more than an accessory; they want something personal, meaningful, and enduring.
